Brownies made in trays rather than cupcakes papers/wrappers.
Serviettes used instead of plates for food service again to assist biodegradability.
No purchase of plastic glasses for sparkling wine as there was stock from last years event.
Labelled wine glasses for guests to recycle.
Purchased large bottles of sparkling wine rather than portion sized.
Used Ice to keep bottles cold rather than refrigerate.
Brought items from home for decoration rather than purchasing new.
Used online advertising forums rather than printing paper posters to display.
Carpooled when necessary to make purchases or incorporated purchases with daily domestic tasks.
For future events:
Encourage people to bring their own glasses for Cava Corner, or

Ray of Light (Amy Childers)
With numbers provided by Janet Coffey, I was able to buy less beverage than previous year with numbers more appropriate to the event.
Re-purposing to prevent waste:
-all Gatorade, soda, and juice were re-purposed from the cancelled spring fun day event.
-3 cases of bottled water were donated due to being left from another event.
-hotdogs and ketchup re-purposed from cancelled spring fun day event.
Improved shipping of supplies: the beverage vendor I used for the touch rugby tournament last year shipped in heavy styrofoam packaging. New vendors for this year did not use styrofoam packaging.
Preventing food waste:
-leftover Gatorade sold at cost for grade 12 exam room to prevent food waste.
-cooked food remaining at end of event sold at cost to prevent food waste.
-unopened food items given to school facilities and cleaning staff to prevent food waste.
Purchased mustard and ketchup dispensers to refill from bulk cans and bags. Plan to be used at this and future events.
Brought the following items from home to prevent purchase:
-reusable serving trays
-reusable foil pans
-dish towels and cloths used for cleaning instead of paper products
-large plastic bins and beverage coolers
-cutting board and other utensils
Reiterate from Amy Yang Fund: serviettes, tray brownies, on-line advertising forums.
For future events:
Regarding the beverage area in particular: if possible, I would like to request the help of the sustainability committee to label bins for recycling of bottles and cans. I would also like to ask if sustainability committee volunteers would be willing to be present the day of the event to encourage the use of the correct bins.
Work with the World Cup group to improve purchasing guidelines for less waste. In particular reference to single serving beverage containers and meat products.
