Sustainable Event Planning

Nanjing International School

Why be sustainable?

NIS aims to be an environmentally conscious campus, and, through our new Strategic Projects, sustainability has been elevated in importance.  This website is here to continue working towards sustainability. In 2016, the United Nations created the 'Sustainable Development Goals’, part of a global initiative to ‘end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all'. To help you play your part, we have created guidelines for when you are planning an event. Our Sustainability Committee members are here to help you apply these specifically to your event (contact below). Thank you for your consideration and dedication to supporting the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

Our Story

The Sustainability Committee at Nanjing International School has had many names throughout the years, from 4R Project and Save Our Species to The Eco Team however we have always stood for the same thing. To educate and influence our school’s community towards a more environmentally-friendly future. However, as a committee striving for sustainability, we now consider so much more than the environment.

When the new school strategy was developed and launched, a small team of devoted students, staff and parents came together to search for the most convenient solution to some of the most unsustainable practices at our school. What started off as a simple checklist soon became a network of solutions and ideas to promote good choices for our community.

‘Sustainability’ is often misunderstood and it is thanks to the COMPASS educators that the interconnectedness of nature, economics, society and well-being are brought together. In correspondence with the United Nation’s Goals for Sustainable Development, we hope this site aids our school in making better choices for our planet as a whole.
