Food & Beverage: Plastics
Why reduce plastics?
Some scientists predict that, by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. According to the 'Science' journal, China produces about one-third of the plastic waste that ends up in the oceans. The environmental and health impacts of recycling in China are huge too: cleaning pollutes waterways, burning releases pollutants into the air, and plastic unfit for recycling is dumped directly into riverbeds. Plastic uses about 4% of the world's oil to make the material itself and another 4% for the energy needed. Not only that, but it may take up to 1,000 years to degrade.
