Why reduce energy use?
China’s main source of electricity is coal. China is making a better effort at using sustainable energy sources. However, because of burning coal, China is the world’s leading emitter of green house gases. Burning coal results in air pollution, smog and acid rain which are a serious health risk for all who live in China. Reducing our electricity usage, will result in less coal being burnt.

Why reduce water use?
About 500 million people are without safe drinking water in China, predominantly due to industrial pollution and limited water resources. China depends mostly on surface water as a water resource. Our province of Jiangsu is one of the areas in China where our water use exceeds our water resources. We should think about conserving our water because the less water we use, more clean water is available and there is less contaminated water polluting our environment. Conserving water also means we are conserving energy, as energy is needed to clean and pump the water as well as deal with sewage.
